I know a CAI will give a bit of extra mpg, but are there any other things? ....
CAI will not improve most trucks gas milage... 99% of all people who install a CAI want more power & have a heavy foot = less or equal milage but they all have a bigger grin on their faces.

I just finished a week trip to Yellowstone & tracked milage on every fillup. To my suprise on 2 tanks of gas I averaged over 15.8 mpg (never had that before) and that was going over some pretty steep grades. Both the little woman and I have very heavy foots too. I think it may have had something to do with the gas in the different states we went to.

On another trip in June I had a chance to add a fuel cooler inline before the fuel rail & that was good for a 6% increase in gas milage. Even with my heavey foot.

I have a 2003 Hemi.. only thing that isn't stock under the hood is the K&N air filter... I have a 250 mile drive that I do twice a week (once down / once back) and I am always 17.5 - 18.3 MPG. I'm not towing anything but I do have 150 lbs in cargo.. plus the extra weight of nerf bars, a truck cap and a few other after market parts... say a total of 500 lbs all together? Am I the only one getting these numbers?

Mixed driving with my 04 HEMI QC with 3:92 and 20"s.
I only have 3000 miles on it but have been at 14.9mpg for the last three gas tanks.[sm=smiley20.gif]

if CAI for these things is anything like CAIs for small cars, the only thing it does is make it sound different.... actual dyno proven power isnt worth the cost of a dyno run.

i have a 99 Ram Sport 5.2 and mixed city/hwy gets me betwee 13 and 14... i wouldnt say im a hard driver by any stretch of the imagination... i still have my 30 mpg car but i split the driving between both not quite 50/50, probably a little more in the truck than the car...

i say if i wanted good mpg i wouldnt have bought a truck in the 1st place.

some guy told me he put a "tornado" in his durbango and it improved his mpg noticeably.... i dont know if i buy it or not, id have to hear it from a few more people before i go installing one in my own truck

I have dyno runs for my BMW that shows my home brew type CAI making 6+ hp & 7+ ft lbs of torque. This is equal to what the $300 kits cost but at 1/2 the cost. On the little bimmer, you can feel 6 hp & 7 ft lbs of torque, on the heavy ram... not likely. The K&N kit cliams something like 21 hp & 19?? ft lbs tq, not a big change for such a heavy truck. But if you start adding up all of the mods, you will feel a difference in the way the truck runs. Mine being 4x4 & QC is about as heavy as it can get for the 1500 series and mine scoots pretty good right now...

2004 Quad Cab, Hemi, 3.55 gears, Mobile 1, tailgate DOWN (when possible) and 10,000 miles and I'm getting around 18 mpg on short highway trips and 16-16.5 mpg combo driving. Of course, heavy feet and idling around town will drive it down pretty quickly. I also tow a boat and a load of camping gear about 100 miles a few times a month and I get 13.5 - 14 in that condition. Tonneau cover on it's way & I expect some small improvement with that. By the way...the trip computer is amazingly accurate if you drive 100 miles or more and then do a conventional check. Best of Luck!!

Just remember, you can't add it all up normally like my CAi adds 6 Hp and my flywheel balancer adds 9 so that should be 15 it ain't.

At how many miles is the break in time finished? I have 900 on mine and I had to run her a little hard last night.

When new (25 miles) 14 mpg

Currently (1500 Miles) 16.5 mpg

BTW... that's 70% highway 30% city
~80 Degrees F
No Tonneau & windows down (max drag)

Also....

New vs Current MPG numbers are the same route - Not down hill in neutral [sm=lol.gif]
