YEA ANOTHER TRANSMISSION PROBLEM
HI EVERYONE IM JOE. THANKS FOR LOOKING AT MY QUESTION. I HAVE A 99 DODGE RAM 1500. 2WD AND AUTOMATIC. THE PROBLEM IM HAVING IS WITH OVERDRIVE. THE OVERDIRVE SEEMS TO HANG UP WHEN I GET TO THE POINT IT SHOULD SHIFT INTO IT. AND WHEN IT GOES INTO OVERDRIVE IF I LET OFF THE THROTLE IT SHIFTS BACK INTO 3RD GEAR. WHEN I COME TO A STOP IFEEL IT DOWN SHIFT PRETTY HARD. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN AFTER I DRIVE IT FOR A WHILE. SOMETIMES IT CAN GO ALL DAY WITH NO PROBLEMS. ANY COMMENTS WOULD BE APPRECIATED.
It certainly seems well overdue for tranny maintenance! Regular maintenance, full fluid change is 100% necessary. In order to achieve this you need to remove all the fluid, this can be somewhat hard at home as you need to drain the converter, and cooler, ect. Doing a couple of back to back "drain & flush" sequences will normally adequate.
Overdrive is electric, commanded by a solenoid, I'm assuming that pump pressure is not up to par or just simply gummed up due to burned fluid.
I have seen this problem time and time again due to lack of maintenance.
Please elaborate further.
