2001 ram 1500 in and out of lock up
I have a 2001 ram 1500 5.2 with the o/d At steady cruising speed the trans goes in and out of lock-up. It may be going from partial lock to full lock, and then back. I have not driven with a DRB3 on. This happens with no change in load, or grade of road . I suspect a tps problem, or transient "noise" from another component. It is driving me crazy, and I dont want to hurt the converter...Thanks for any help Curt Baker
I would guess either a throttle position sensor (TPS), or a bad brake light switch. Does it kick in and out when you hit bumps, or even on steady road?
Your cruise control would disengage that same time the TC unlocks if it's the brake light switch. If the cruise is fine, I would lean more towards TPS. See if the pedal has a certain spot where you can duplicate the condition.
Bad or corodded ground wires can also kick the TC in and out.
Good luck with your ride.

If you have bigger tires on your truck that makes the tranny shift different mine did that with 35s so i went to the dealer ship and they reprogramed the comp for me to allow lock up to engage at the right time and it fixed my speedo to.
dont over look the trans temp sensor, it will do the same thing if the pcm thinks the trans is hoter than it is. you mentioned drb so go for a ride and make a data recording and when it drops out trigger it. then you can go back to the shop and see what it is with out guessing.
