Question about dealer service....
I know we have some techs and dealer folk around so...
I work right across from a BIG dealer that handles all of DC's products.... I have always had my trucks serviced there (00 Dak 02 Durango..). I never bought any of my vehicles from them.
They are one of those...
high pressure[:'(]
"this deal is only good today"[:'(]
Were gonna hold the your keys untill you say yes[:'(]
if the salesperson is getting nowhere we will send the sales mgr to beat you up...[:'(]
They pull out all the stops... really not my style.
I mean i'm no stranger to buying a vehicle only been driving for 12 years and bought 8 vehicles. I also work in finance and know what the rates, incentives ....(Blah Blah Bla) mmmkay?
oh... the point? ahh yeah I almost forgot about that....[sm=lol.gif]
so the sales manager is beating me up trying to sell me a Ram that was not what I wanted
Wrong engine
Wrong color
Wrong bed size
Wrong size wheels
everyting I didn't want
then he says if I buy from him I'll have use of their "excellent" service department
I told him that I had used their service dept and didn't know if I would call it excellent...
His answer....
"What do you expect... you didn't buy it from us. How do you think their gonna treat you?"
Nice....
REAL Nice....
That's when I asked for my keys back and left....
Sooo... I found a 5 star dealer almost 50 miles from me that had the Ram I wanted. I called them and they made me a better deal over the phone.... they rolled out the red carpet for me. Treated me very well. I even got to meet the owner.
Sorry if I ran it too long - I thought a backround would be helpful...
Bottom line.....
Is it uncool to expect a 5 star dealer who didn't sell you the vehicle to do the warranty work?
I didn't used to think so but ... reading some of the posts here from techs who say DC doesn't give
them shi* for warranty work....
Do I really get treated s**tty cuz I didn't buy it there?
or are they just being A**holes?

RE: Question about dealer service....
Bottom line, take your truck someplace else.... and start fresh. (Here is what I do)
I have purchased over 20 vehicles in my 12 years of driving... (my 2003 Hemi QC SB Laramie is vehicle number 23)
I don't have a favorite manufacturer.. nor do I have any insiders (relatives and such) working at any particular dealership. Point being I'm just an average car crazed consumer who spends every dime on cars. If there is one thing I have learned its that dealership service is ALL ABOUT getting on the good side of the service manager. Typically the service manager doesn't care about where you purchased the vehicle, he just cares about getting the work finished within the time that big manual says it should take him. You want to make him really happy?? The first time you take your truck in, spend $50 bucks and buy pizza for all the techs. :-) Not only will you get to meet all the techs who will remember your generosity and your vehicle, but you will also succeed in keeping the techs working over lunch, which gets the service manamger an extra 30 - 45 min of work to use as "catch up" time for any jobs that ran over the "service bible's estimates" that day.
And you get to have some pizza and talk shop with the guys that can REALLY be helpful with info later on in projects and stuff. It's a small price to pay for years of "hey there's!", smiling faces, and a new found concern for your vehicle. Clear it with the service manager over the phone when you make the appointment initially... but I haven't had one say no yet!
My $.02.
