180 degree thermostat question

I have a 95 Ram with the 318 and thinking about swapping out my 210 degree thermostat for a 180? Would the truck run any better with a cooler thermostat?
I don't have an aftermarket chip or anything like that. I was just curious.
Thanks.

i did simular to that last month to my 2000 furd ranger ... from 190 to a 170 or somthing like that.. the truck ran cooler i dunno about more power... but it was a lil smoother cause it wasnt running so hot all the time.. but in winter " thats if u have a cold winter" u'd probably wanna change it back cause from where im from "canada" it gets round -30'c and the truck takes a lot longer to heat up witha cooler thermostat

btw with a chip the truck most likely will run hotter with the additon of a advance in the spark or computer changes to burn higher octane fuel.. they compensate that by using a low temp thermostat ...well thats how i figure.. good luck [sm=smiley20.gif]

I had a 98 360 that I installed the 180 thermostat in. I also was using the Mopar Performance computer, the truck ran noticeably cooler. I believe the lower temperature will cost you a tiny bit of fuel mileage but I really couldn't tell in that truck, it hardly ever broke 10.5 mpg. The lower temperature will also help with any pinging. When I flush the coolant in my 02 Durango, I'll install a 180.

Actually, advancing the timing will usually make an engine run cooler, not warmer!
Now if you get into spark knock or pre-ignition, then it may run warmer.
