Default biggest tires on 17"

Just wondering what's the biggest tires I can put on my stock 17" rims, without them rubbing on my rear wheel well liners? It came with 245/70Michelins, and I don't like 'em. I'll run 'emfor awhile but I'll be replacing them withsomething else. Your opinions appreciated..... Thanks all....Tim

Tim - I've got the same tires. They are o.k. I suppose, but pretty whimpy looking. So I'm sort of in the same boat. I've been doing a lot of looking on this and other forums. From what I've been able to figure out, 265/70/17s will fit with no problem. I've not found any 285/70/17s, but if there are any, I'm fairly confident those would fit also. 305/70/17s will fit, but may require a lift on the front for a 2x4 or cranking the torsion bars a few turns on a 4x4. Same with 315/70/17s, but I've seen where some have had problems of rubbing or bottoming out without lifting the front an inch or so. - Dave

Default biggest tires on 17"

Thanks dsmazz..... Mine's a 4x4 and I'd prefer to leave it looking fairly stock. I'll check into your suggestions....

I have 17 in. rims but I have no idea the tire size. I am not home to enjoy it and it has all been gifts so far from my wife. I will ask her though when I talk to her tonight and will fill you in, but until then I will add a few pictures and you can take a look. I am also interested in this so anything I can come up with I will share (like I'd hold out anyway)

Just got off the phone with the missus and she read right off the paper work. The tires are 33X12.5 Now I doubt that is the biggest it can go but they don't rub anything and they look good. At least I think so

I had WALMART put on a set of BFG Mud Terrain T/A in the 285/70R17 flavor. They have them here in NE for $197.36. There is no rubbing even without cranking the T-bars. I will post pics when I get back from my weeklong deployment

285 70 17 came stock on my 03 Ram. My 3.55 gears are my enemy now. If I had 3.92 I would put BFG 315 70 17. They are 160 a tire near me.
