crusing speed:
since I drive the same 210 miles twice a week, I get plenty of chances to test out things like "what is the best speed to run at". I drive the same roads every time, fill up at the same gas station every time, so it ends up being a really good real world test. What works best for me is to set the cruise at 63 MPH. Any faster and I begin to feel and hear an extra wind drag about cabin which also means turbulance, which means the engine has to work just a bit harder to maintain the speed. Who knows if this holds true for all trucks. Something as small as the OEM bug deflector that came on my truck could affect where the "sweet spot" falls on the speedometer. 63 MPH may sound slow to some of you, but I have done this drive at 75 - 80 before and I dont get there any faster.... sounds stupid I know.... but even at 63 MPH I end up having to brake or let off the gas once in a while for semi trucks, merging minivans with 7.3 kids stuffed in them etc.. so it averages out to almost the same ETA. If i drive 75 -80 I just have to brake more often, and speed back up more often.. don't get there any faster... just waste more gas.
