Default My project.. 1994 4WD

I am told I am a nice dad...

My son (19) bought a 94 Ram cheap. I already owned a 97 2WD, in great shape. I wasnt there when he bought it, and the cheap price has been offset by repairs.

I traded him truck temporarily (I work 400 miles away). I figured I would fix it up for him, simple, eh? Well... let me tell ya. He bought a piece of sh&t. But... I will fix it, somewhat.

Today, I replaced the shocks and stabilizer. What a difference! The shocks were leaking oil, and the stabilizer had zero resistance. I also greased the fittings (3-4 pumps in each), they were all dry. The tires were each 10-15 lbs low, and they need rotated badly (later this week). I ordered the small parts from the dealer that I need, so I should have it in good shape by Labor day.

I checked, and it has oil in the throttle body. Yep.. plenum gasket. I priced it at the dealer.. 500 bucks plus... so I will do it myself. The drivers door window motor is shot, I am getting the dealer to do it. The driver seat (electric) has some positions that dont work, I have to investigate that yet.

The main thing, which may never get fixed, is the transfer case. It is evidently shot, since all the joints and shaft are missing. We dont go off road, its no biggy (to me).

Just passing on an update to the "project". If anyone has anything to add, cool. If not, cool too.

Will the dealer let you buy the parts and have them install them? Just at thought to save money. If you can, you can try a website UNEEDAPART.com to see if you can get a replacement. My father-in-law used it to replace his window motors in a 95 Lincoln town car and saved a lot of money.

Also, are y'all going to look into getting a replacement t-case? Factory or after market? You can use the above website to look for that too, or you can go to a website ADVANCEDADAPTERS.COM and look at their atlas 2 t-case. Built like a tank and also allows for 2wd rear, 2wd frond low and high, 4wd low and high. Everyone that I know who has one says they will always have one in their 4x4. Advanced adapters also has some new products out (like the atlas 5 with a 5:1 gear reduction), but they're quite a bit more expensive.

Good luck on the project and keep us updated (pic on mods would be great).
