hey guys
just ordered a black hemi quad cab 1500, arriving in feb, about the same time as my kennebell hehe
my questions are as follows for those experts on the board
1- is there any adjustment in the stock ride height ? is that how the
2500 and 3500 are taller just adjust the tosion bars i'm wondering if
anyone has maxed these out and what kind of a raise they got
2-what the biggest rubber i can get under there ? something quite...
thks for the help !

If you just ordered your truck, say within the last week, don't count on February as being drop dead. Depending on the plant it's built at and the restrictions on options that prevail from time to time, it could be earlier or later. Who knows. The dealership allotment also plays into things, though the dealer won't tell you that. If their allotment for the month is consumed, the order willgo to the following month. I'd wait about two weeks and call the Dodge 800# listed on their Web site to check. You will need to bug the dealership for the VON# (Vehicle Order Number) before you call Dodge.

The torsion bar adjustment (4x4s only) will give you maybe 1-1/2" to 1-3/4" in the front end only. It will also give you a much stiffer ride, potentially cause the shocks to bottom out, and require a realignment of the front end. This does not affect the rear height. Again, if it's a 4x4, this option is open to you. Not if you ordered a 2WD.

Regarding tires: I'm not up on the 20" wheels that are common. But for 17" wheels, the largest tire without making any lift adjustments, on the stock wheels, would be 285/70/17. Not many options on that size for tires or brands, however. More common would be 265/70/17. You can go with a 305/70/17 or 315/70/17 on stock wheels, if you ordered a 4x4 AND if you then crank the torsion bars. Important to note, however, that some have reported rubbing on the inside with 315s, some have not. Wheel backspacing may be an issue.

awesome response thks ! (about the von and 800 no also)
i neglected to mention its a 4x4 w/ 17" wheels
i see that the smaller 3"lift kits go for about $400 and change so i
figure that might be an option if it rubs too badly, but i'd rather not
lift if i dont have too
i was thinking of the 35 " also as a good compromise and still keep it
streetable to blow off porsches on the highway ! (see kb above )
i was thinking the bf goodrich

the 315 has a 34.5" dia about 2.1" up from the stock 275's on the diameter
any idea what will give the best street handling and low noise for that size ?
thks again

Before you go too far, do you know if you are getting the 3.55 or the 3.92 rear end? If the tire diameter gets too large, the 3.55 rear may not be up to the task of getting you up to speed as quickly. If your truck is coming with the 3.55 rear, I'd suggest staying at a 285/70/17 or265/70/17, unless you are going strictly for looks. With 35" tires, you aint' gonna blow off any Porches, much less a stock Hemi with stock 17s.

3" Lift kits are body lift kits. I don't like these at all. They place the engine too far down below the hood, expose a gap between the frame and box, and you run the risk of popping the air bag during installation, if you don't follow the proper steps. They also pose issues with respect to the bumpers and gaps between the grill (in front) and the tailgate (in rear). I don't like them, but then that's my opinion. In some states, they are not legal, so you should make sure ahead of time.

As far as street handling, if you go with BFGs, you might as well get used to a little more noise and a little less comfortable ride. Don't get me wrong, they are a good tire, it's just that they are designed with a more aggressive tread. A good source for tire information is tirerack.com. They carry several brands, and have comprehensive specs as well as owner reviews.

thks again !!
i ordered the lower geared 3.92 for that reason
thks for clueing me in on the lift, i'll stay clear of that and just
fit the larger rubber just tweaking the front torsion if i have to
acceleration will be effected starting from a dead stop, but once its rolling there shouldnt be too much difference
if they rub a little on full lock that'll be ok
tirerack is a good source.
for 285/305/315 bfg is pretty much the only game in town i prefer them to goodyear
on a related subject this is some pretty sick rubber, i'm sure you've seen it
