exhaust systems

I hear if your car is NA that a 2.0inch exhaust is better for low end torque, smaller exhaust = low end torque, is that correct? Also if I go 2inch exhaust pipe with 3 inch muffler into a 4 inch tip will that be louder then a 2.5>3inch muffler>4 inch tip?

RE: exhaust systems

smaller exhaust means more backpressure and small backpressure helps at small rpm's. I think going from small to big makes it louder, so going from 2 to 3 to 4 should be louder than starting off with 2.5. Personally i think there wouldn't be much diffrence. Also i think 3 inch tip looks better than 4 inch, i looked at some 4 inch tips and they looked too big to me.

RE: exhaust systems

so basically at a drag strip 2.0inch would probably be the way to go?

RE: exhaust systems

i would do 2.5 " with some headers. If the headers and downpipe stay the same there is no need to go above 2". On drag strip you drive at higher rpm's so bigger is better.
at higher rpm's the engine trying to push huge amount of air out; so small exhaust is restricting. On small rpm's small exhaust is just right becuase there is not as much air going out and everything runs fine. When having a big exhaust at low rpm's engine is pushing the air out and it have hard time because there is a lot of area to push the air tru. Try blowing air tru a small straw and big straw to see the difference and then deside what you want. I drive under 2000 rpm rangeso i put empty cats and 20" glasspacks for some backpressure instead of muffler. Having tru duals i did noticed more power at high rpms than before because there is less restriction. hope that helps

but waht about single exhaust not dual. How would i go about doing that . I want to replace the one i have now. my friend said just get a newmuffler ... but hes the one that told me to cut my springs.!

RE: exhaust systems

my exhaust is single, personally I love custom exhaust. a lot cheaper and it will be just as good as a $800 borla. I just got a straight pipe all the way back.

RE: exhaust systems

i used to run single wich was straight pipe. I think stealth sounds real nice with stock exhaust with empty cat and no muffler.

RE: exhaust systems

if your a NA car I would stay with a single exhaust, and yeah they do sound pretty good with stock exhaust.
