Default Timing issues.

I just put a new (well not new, was out of a working car) engine into my stealth cause the other one blew up on the way home from where i bought it. My father and i put the car into grounding mode using that brown thing near the battery. The issue is that when we try to get it to where it is supposed to be the car dies. Also there seems to be an excessive amount of chatter coming from the engine, would the improper timing cause this? Also the car runs like ****. Also I was wondering how to check engine codes on this car? My other car had a diagnostic tool built into the dash that read out numbers for each code. My car is a 92 Stealth RT DOHC 3.0L N/A The engine is out of a 91 SE.

Any help would be appreciated thanks

have you checked your oil to make sure its not your rods knocking? The engine for the 91-93 Stealth are all the same 6g72 engine, but they never made a SE Stealth.

I know for a fact the oil is ok. I just replaced it fresh. Also it doesnt sound like a rod knock to me, the engine i just replaced had a rod knock bad enough to throw it thru the block. And i think it was ES not SE, i might have gottn them backwards.

if the timing was thrown it could cause a strange noise, it happened to my stealth thats actually being worked on has we speak.

I think we found out why it is making all the noise, a friend of my dads told him cause the engine was sitting so long that air bubbles formed under the lifters. Anyone know if this could be true or not?

I'm not sure if that could be true, my Stealth sat for about 5-6 months when it was broke before being fixed and she had no problems after sitting for that period of time.

Ok so we checked the timing marks and they were way way off. So we replaced the timing belt and timed where it should be. We also pulled each lifter out of the head cleaned em and pressed them with a vice then oiled em up and placed them back inside the head. Now it sounds like it should. Only problem now is a nasty oil leak which looks like it is coming from the oil filter bracket.
