Default Timing belt upper covers

Just curious. When installing new cam gears, is it ok to leave the timing belt upper covers off? I wasn't sure if leaving them off would hurt anything.

Why are you installing cam gears?

You can leave them off, lots of people do, just know, that if anything were to get in there and mess up your timing belt...chances are you'll blow your engine.

I'm putting in the adjustable ones so it's easier to adjust the timing.

Ah, my bad. Setting the timing with cam gears is a little tricky, since you have to set all of them the same. I personally wouldn't recommend it.
