You i've heard that a lot of people say that the dodge stealth is nothing but a 3000GT w/ down syndrome.What the crap is that all about? In my opinion the 3000GT body looks a little better but not to tat drastic of an extent. What's you opinion??<IMG src=smileys/smiley29.gif border="0">

 

Myself, I always thought the Stealth looked better, and not just because of the Dodge emblems and name plate. The 3000GT's styling and ground effects just look cheap to me, where the Stealths seemed to have better and cleaner styling. I never would have though such slight changes would make such a difference to me, but I'm the same way with the Roadrunner, the '72 has slight styling differences from the '71, but I really prefer the '71 over the '72. <img border="0" src=smileys/smiley17.gif border="0">

 

Yeah, i can see your point. However i can say for sure that the ST spoiler sucks. Speeking of sucks, my stealth began to rev alot when i was at idle. I know that the ias is going out but when i was on my way to school yesterday i noticed that my temp. gauge was way up there<IMG src=smileys/smiley3.gif border="0">. I just pulled the car over and turned it off and smoke began to pour out from underneath my hood. I was pissed<IMG src=smileys/smiley7.gif border="0">. I popped my hood and heard what sounded like steam out of a kettle. antifreeze was underneath the reserve and under the engine where the engine connects w/ the tranny(but no where near the water pump). I hope that the reserve just over flowed but would the IAS going out cause the car to heat up that fast within 3/4 miles?????? <IMG src=smileys/smiley5.gif border="0"></P><edited><editID>Racer2005</editID><editDate>37999.5526967593</editDate></edited>

 

I do love the active aero on the last couple years of the 3000GT's.

No. Overheating is caused by coolant blockage, bad water pump, bad thermostat, too little coolant, blown head gasket, fan failure, leaking hose, cracked head, cracked block, colapsed radiator hose, leaking or missing freeze out plug, bad fan switch or wiring, etc. Unless your running jet fuel, the car is keeping the RPM's up sky high and you live in a desert, then there is no reason why the IAS could be the cause, the cooling system should be able to take care of a bouncing idle. Something is very wrong to cause over heating in less than a mile.

 

How many of you recomend buying a dodge stealth? I am 17 and may be buying one. Is it worth it? I love the body style, and they are generally cheaper than the 3000gt so im thinkin about buying one. Also can anyone tell me if and when i get this stealth were i coud buy a turbocharger for it. oh and the one im lookin at is a 93 es i believe, thanks

 

the stealth is a great car. I have a 91 steath es. It was running very well until my lower intake manifold gasket blew. Is the one your looking at a manual or automatic. Mine is a manual and it is really fun to drive. W/ 222hp the car can get up and go fairly well. The 1/4 ET is 15.6. and the hp is all at rpm's between 3500-6800. Would i recommend buying one?? well, that would depend upon the condition of the car; milage, possible engine rebuild, and previous problems. As far as the turbo goes, i don't know of any place but i'm sure someone else will. I'd kind of like to know what kind of job a 17 yr old would have that enables you to buy a turbo??<IMG src=smileys/smiley36.gif border="0"></P><edited><editID>Racer2005</editID><editDate>38006.5487731481</editDate></edited>

 

Alright well thank you for your input. I respect the question on my age and job position. And so i will respond, I am takin a college class at a vocational school. Precision Machining...im sure some of you know what CNC and mills and lathes are. Thats what i am in and as of right now im top of the class and have been excepeted to begin participating in the apprentice program. This means i got to school for just my one class..precision machining..and then go to work, They will start off paying well more than the average fast food place. But as of right now i am workin at Mcdonalds. So the money will be of no issue. My dad is a precision machinist and makes 34 somethiing an hour, so i think im set. Id have to say that the 94-96 stealths look way better than any 3000gt besides the 99 VR4...but i just dont like the ground effects or the gay spoiler..i think the stealths has always looked better

 

the only differences between all of the cars is the actual aero parts. the sail panels, bumpers and sides are different as well as the wings. But whats really cool is, they are all interchangable. My car is actually a 91 ES, however, I did the 99 VR4 front and rear end conversions and I have Bomex side skirts with 3000GT door caps. But mechaniclly, they are all identical. All the parts are made by mitsubishi. The only thing Dodge did was change a few of the body parts and slap their names on it, which is very common between Chrystler, Dodge, Eagle, Plymouthand Mitsubishi,since Chrystler Corp own all of them. </P>


As for buying a turbo kit for a NA stealth or 3000. Not gonna happen. There are none. However, you can do a TT conversion on the NA 3S cars, like we did with mine. There are 2 ways to do it, but both basiclly come down to buying parts from a VR4/RT TT and adding them or swaping out the entire motor, ECU and wiring harness with the turbo stuff. We have done several TT conversions, as we actually specialize in these cars and the DSM's. Labor for a Turbo conversion is $2000 and the parts portion REALLY depends on what kind of deal you can find on the parts. I can tell you that when we did mine, I spent well over $10,000 to do mine, but a lot of that was because I bought all aftermarket performance parts instead of used VR4 parts to do my conversion. I would however say that the bare minimium that it would cost you would be $6000 parts and labor.</P>


Racer: As for your idling and overheating problem, the idling is probably from your IAC. Your overheating is either the thermostat or your WP. But if all the coolant is on the tranny side, I would say you need a new thermostat. Try that one 1st, as that's definitely the cheaper of the 2 fixes. If that doesn't help, its gonna be the WP. In fact, how many miles are on the car? The big thing with the 3S cars is, you HAVE to do your 60k service (timing belt, tensioner, water pump, tensioner pulley and idler pulley) every 60,000 miles, LIKE ITS CLOCKWORK! If you dont, you are really risking the chance of that tensioner giving out or the water pump failing and your T-belt jumping timing, which WILL bend all the intake valves in your heads. I have a car in the shop right now that had that happen, and it is costing the guy roughly $3000 to get a set of good used heads and having all the work done with the new 60K stuff.</P>
