Default Re-painting

Alright so im thinking of repainting my car cuz it has a lot of dings and scaratches and the paint is kinda rubbing off. (scary). But i have noticed that it already has been repainted once. the person did a bad job. sigh. But anyways i was just wondering should i go the same color or should i change it up. O yea an about how much does it cost. i have looked around by my home but people want way to much. they r crazy.
Thanks

It all depends on howmuch money you want to spend. It can be anywhere from $300 "peel off in two years" paint job to $10k showcar paint job. It is best to keep same color, because other wise you would have to worry about painting inside the engine compartment, door jams and all the little htings. You can save money by doing prep work your self, and then bring the car for piant which you could get for $500 or so. Decent quality paint job would cost about $2k

2 and 3K sound pretty rediculous to me. I have had shops tell me they can do it for around $800. And they do pretty quality work.

If you're looking for a professional or show car quality paint job, then expect to pay the 2-3K. I was given a quote of 9K. When you're getting quotes in this range of pricing, it usually involves disassembling the body and idividually painting each piece, inside and out.

If you were painting your car a different color, would you want the outside paint to be a different color in the door jams, under the hood, etc? The paint jobs from places like Maaco do exterior paint. Ask how they go about painting. I'd imagine the $300-800 are exterior only.

Bottom line, it really depends on what you want. If price is the most important thing for you, go with the cheapest but do your homework. You don't wanna end up with the same crappy paint job you're trying to correct.

pulling out the dents and getng everything smothed out takes some labor. the more the dens the more it is to fix it. If you cant do the prep work your self then expect to pay somebody to do it. The least you coud do is sand the paint down to smooth all the way around and pull bumpers off. If the paint job was done very poorly then it is in the best interest to try to sand dwn as much of it as possible. Also you can mask everything off.If repainting the same color, then need to sand the clear coat down or at least sand it so new pant will stick. You can sho around and get a paint job for a 1k. Anything below 1k have a good chance to turn out looking bad, if not imidietly but in four years or so.

The painted areas in my signature photo and my avatar cost me around $1,000 with all the preparation it required. Granted, this was at a discounted $25/hr. (know the shop owner/operators), but just to get that much done with 6 coats base, 7-8 coats clear and the required cleaning took ~80-90 man hours. Provided I continue doing most of the bondo work/smoothing, I was quoted about another $3,500 for final prep, paint, and buffing to make it local show quality.
I'd expect a Stealth paint job would probably run between $2,500-$3,500 if you have a professional shop (no, Maaco doesn't count, lol) do the final prepping, paint, and buffing needed to make the car look smooth as glass & look like it.

Would a paint job with a matte or satin finish rather than glossy generally cost less?

I'm sure it would be maybe $200-$400 extra for gloss colors over say black in total supplies cost (though matte or satin may be just as pricey as it'd be rather unusual to have it done). The shop that did mine told me I could have gotten my underbody painted black as opposed to body color for something like $500 less. The Plum Crazy Purple I went with is a little more costly because it's a metallic color that takes quite a few pigments to get it mixed to the factory '70-'71 specs I used (it's PPG paint, too). If you were to go with say PPG Mitsubishi/Dodge Pearl White metallic, it would probably be about the same cost as my Plum Crazy did, if not a little more.
