fifth gear popping out?
Sigh.. mine pops out of reverse,, and has trouble getting into 1st 2nd and 3rd , its like i grind it until i find it... does that mean in order to fix that... rebuild with new syncros? i hear thats what 3000$++? might as well buy a new steatlh eh?
To the original poster: Your car is FWD right? Do a google search about DSM trannies and 5 gear popping out. The FWD tranny is very similar to the DSM tranny. There is a big nut on the end of the gear set that will work loose on occasion. Search around and see what you can find, if I recall correctly, it can be done with the tranny in the car. You could also have a bent shift fork, or something amiss with the linkages. Do you cruise with you hand on the shifter? That will wear out the shift fork.
Blink: Did this just start? Have you replaced your tranny fluid? Replace it with some
GM or Pennzoil (same product, different name) Syncromesh.
Is your car a 2nd gen (6-speed) You don't have anything in the way of the shift linkage do you? Aftermarked BOV or something. Check your linkage (on the tranny) as well.

Lol after reading your text i was double shifting to work... and back home.. my cluctch is so tight u have to slam it all the way to the floor and then some always, so it gets my leg strained really fast.. is that normal for the clutch to be so tight? i mean.. no one else can even drive my car... personally i changed all the transmission fluid on my car when i replaced the axels, feels a little better but i still get the grindings.. sometimes it wont go into first gear without going into second then back up into first.... **** gots alot of problems...

like "the stealth" said i went to google.com and looked up dsm transmissions and found out that there is a nut inside the end case of you transmission that will come loose and allow 5th gear to pop out or move back and for when pressing on and off the gas,if you drive it like this the more damage will be done.it took me about 2 hours taking of the pass. side wheel and mud gaurd ,then unbolting something like 8 bolts on the end of the trans, there you will find your nut.i forgot the torque but tap the nut on both sides to lock it and replace the parts on the case if needed.then put it back together.i used 85 / 90 gear oil.If i drive it much longer it would off been blown.thanks a lot
