Question from ticking to knocking

i have a 92 stealth dohc and it always had a tick but just recently the tick turned into a similar as a knock but not as rough as one. what happen was i started it up and it ran wid a tick like normal but when i was leaving work it lost power at a stop sign, but fired back up with a louder knock like noise. got i home started it back up and it was loud but not sure if nock . the oil pressure is extremely high. any ideas. maybe a crank bearing, lifter . clogged passeg to that valve. idk but it doesnt seem to be a normal tick.

have you removed the oil filler cap and looked for oil circulation ???
Clogged passageways into the head can cause lifters to tick , blockage can also cause them to knock ... You don't say how many miles you have ...
Possibly an oil flush may be enough to clear or improve the circulation

Another cause could be the timing belt slipped a few teeth , causing it to be out of time

the engine has 120 miles on it an had a timing belt and tensioner replaced 10 thousand miles ago. it sounds like the piston is going to brake through the top of the engine so i concluded it to be a rod bearing.i dont think a valve can sound that loud. if so is it as easily to change the bearing and call it good or is there alot more involved?it also over heated while this happened due to a fin less water pump.i think that played a big role in it,but starts right up and runs just with a bang bang coming from the engine , no smoke

I'd double check the timing FIRST ... If it's off it will cause knocking/damage to piston/heads ...
Fully clogged passages can be pretty loud as well a quick check with a stethescope will let you know if it's heads or engine

i will check that next. if it is coming from the top end due to a clogged passage what would be the solution. say its coming from lower end being a rod bearing what will have to be done? thanks

Top end clogged somtimes an oil flush is enough to open things up ... I've seen Quaker State motor oil build up terribly in the heads due to high parafin content ...
Other times pull the valve cover off and scrub/clean out everything , since you state oil pressure is extra high I'm thinking you might have total blockage to the head
If it's a rod bearing I'd say a full rebuild as the crank bearings might have similar damage that caused the rod bearing to go ...A compression test might show if there is piston/valve damage

thank you i will check the timing and then flush the system and go from there. if it was the rod bearing wouldnt the pressure go down because i no with these cars the pressure gauge on most stealths 3000 gts gown down when at a idle do to wear on rod or crank bearing. i have 2 steaths and had a 3000 gt i love but keeping them going is always fun.

I went thru similar on my 3000GT VR4 ... She was a money pit as the AWD went out four times ...(at $3000 a pop)
Higher oil pressure can be either a clogged passage or leaking rings causing blow by ...
Have you pulled the dipstick and looked for smoking ???

I've used car-parts.com to find motors before ... unfortunately with the age of the car a good low miles one would be really hard to find
