W5MG1 is the part number. You can use the transmission out of a Mitsubishi 3000 VR4. 91's and early 92's had an 18 spline output shaft, the late 92's through 93 had a 25 spline output shaft. The 94 though 96 (99 for vr4's) were 6 speed transmissions, different transmission, transfer case, drive shaft and I believe final rear gear. There are a couple of shops that specialize in rebuilding these transmissions, Kormex in California and JacksTransmissions in Colorado.

You'll pay a minimum of $2300 + transmission swap if you go Kormex, which I would recommend against (took them 3 tries to get it right for my '91 TT).

Make sure everything else really is in good shape. It's hard to check out the car if you can't drive it, even if it looks clean. The forums at www.3si.org are a great resource--much more active than here.
