Default '95 dodge stealth wont shift

My stealth will shift from 1st to 2nd fine but wont shift into 3rd, or downshift back to first once in 2nd. the only way to get it to shift back down is to shut off the car and start it again. It has set for 2-3 years in our garage, ran perfect before we parked it.

Default Shifting Problems

Sounds to me like it could be your synchronizer for your transmission

I'm guessing auto Trans. You will want to check the fluid condition. It should be bright red. If not, do a fluid and filter change.

Do a fluid and filter change. Check the fluid level with the car running at operating temperature and the Trans in neutral.

I am thinking this vehicle has the F4A33 transmission...If that is the case, it is going to be difficult to diagnose without a scan tool... With a scan tool, I would look at input and output speed data..They fail often on these units....If you cannot find a scan tool there is some ways of at least determining what direction to go, just verify that you do have the F4 trans...
