Default revive or trade

I have a 91 stealth rt (non-turbo) and I'm told that that clacking noise coming from the engine is most likely a bent rod which would require a complete rebuild. can anyone give me an idea about the cost to do this.
O'Reilly Auto has a long block for $2800.00, but after that I need help in figuering all the additional costs. The mechanic I went to said for me to figure around 5 to 6000.00. Can this be right????
Any feed back would be GREATLY appreceiated ................
Thanks
Oldtimer

I do on average 3 3000gt/stealth engine rebuilds a month and I have done so for the past several years. Average cost is $3500 to $4000. My machine shop is highly experienced with them and does a complete rebuild putting the engine back to new condition. Cost there is around $2000 then figure $800 for misc parts like oil pump water pump timing belt timing tensioner head gaskets etc. then roughly $1000 is what I charge for labor. At the dealer you will get an assembled shortblock so you will need all the same parts and the same labor. Feel free to give me a call if you have any questions. 301-991-6501. Seth

Where are you located? How does your oil pressure gauge look? A lot of people confuse a bad/collapsed lifter with rod knock. Two completely different issues.
