Default Stealth wont start without giving gas

I currently own a 93 Stealth Base with the SOHC engine and an automatic 4 speed transmission! During the first start up attempt of the day the car will crank and crank but wont fire. The only way it will start is if I give gas while i turn the key. If I do not give gas the car will not start up. But while giving gas the car starts up really hard and just sputters for a while then finally starts and then I get a really strong scent of fuel. I have replaced the fuel pressure regulator, ive checked the spark plugs and they are fine. What could be causing this issue? Could it possibly be the fuel pump?

Could be alot of things. Fuel related or timing related or electronics. Your going to have to have an experienced shop check it out probably. Unplug the mass airflow sensor and try to start it and see if there are any changes

Both of you should also check compression and timing to make sure they are good. Where are you located?

I have the same car and had the same problem. I had the fuel pump changed. It resolved my starting problem. Pump is located under the spare tire. Pump costs under $100 wholesale. Could run into trouble if the pump housing is rusted.
