Getting a little "irritated" with this Stealth..
92 Stealth R/T with the non-turbo DOHC. Problem: It has a "miss" at all RPM ranges. Just got back from the yet another test drive. I'm a little pi**ED off at the moment. This car belongs to my son and the original engine was blown about 2 years ago. Put in the other engine and still have the first engine in the garage. It's kinda nice cause i'm taking parts off it and putting them on the newer engine and see if I can solve the problem. Here is what i've replaced so far: New plugs, new wires, new 02 sensor. That was done 2 days ago and these new parts did not solve the problem. Car ran just as bad.
Yesterday I replaced the 3 coil packs with the ones from the blown engine. Also replaced the coolant temp sensor. I flushed the cooling system while I did this. Today I started the car up and the idle was smooth as silk. Before the engine had a very pronounced rough idle. I thought problem solved. Took it out for a test drive and what I did to the engine fixed 85% of the problem. It ran smooth except you can still tell it's not a 100%. I noticed when you take your foot off the gas you can tell that the engine still has a slight miss. I set the cruise and when you are going up a hill and it calls for more gas you can also feel the "miss". What frustrates me is the parts that I replaced did indeed make a difference. But why didn't it fix the whole problem?
This is the trouble I have when trying to troubleshoot a driveability problem. Sometimes you wished the car would just not run at all. So you know if you got the car running again, chances are you fixed the problem.
Now it's rather obvious I have fixed only part of the problem. I have the old fuel rail with the injectors in a plastic bag that look brand new. My best "guess" right now is it has to be a faulty injector. Would you go ahead and replace them or run a couple can's of some type of injector cleaner through the fuel system? The nice thing about this engine is most parts are easy to change. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks for the time!

Hey, wuz up, I notice your frustration, but I have seen that kind of my problem before, it is all too familiar in both stealth and 3k`s, It is an issue, that once you disconnect the negative battery for more than 10 seconds, the computer would erase its adaptive memory, and the car would function and respond great, like its suppose to. That is after you nail it on full throtle a couple of time, that it resurfaces again. The only way to confirm it is getting a snap shot/movie with the scan tool, on the ignition module, for some reaason, even though there are no moving parts, it would glitch itself, not that the car would die, but to the point that it is annoying. Before you repplace it, make sure you are using the right type of plugs, do cylinder leak down test, a compression test, measure your back pressure at the o2 sensor spot, and try to determin that your Idle is withing specs, and your crank shaft position sensor is at its point, since being optical, it doesn`t take much for it to trow it off, affecting your idle quality, fuel mileage, and the notoriously annoyin excessive over scavenging of the exhaust. Hope this helps you out. Later.
Wait I am confused as to what you meant about disconnecting the negative terminal. Are you saying to disconcect it for 10 minutes and than drive it hard and it will run smoothly?
Unhooking the neg battery terminal for a short time resets the ECU. Sometimes this clears up small issues. You don't have to drive it "hard" when you hook it back up.
Oh yea i knew that part about unhooking the negative battery terminal, I was just confused about what he said after it about "nailing it on full throttle". I don't known just the wording or something confused me.
yes, I`m sorry men, I must admit that as I write, I get carried away and don`t concentrate on how I write it, set back of a gemini I guess. Like he said, is only 10 seconds, it will only give you a temporary fix, until you go all out, since that`s when the glitch on the ICM comes up, as soon as the PCM notices it, since it is being under load, it would retard it`s timing enough to the point in wich it doesn`t occur again, but not enough so that you would see a tremendous loss in torque responce, thus sacrificing gas mileage. What else can you tell me about your car that it might be happening as we speak?. Since everything is multi-plex with these car. I`m sorry for not responding right away, I leave my computer on, but I work grave yard shift, and go to Nascar Tech Inst. in the mornings. I`ll see your responce tomorrow arrow 5 in the morning, that`s about when I get home, before getting rady to head back out. Later bro.
By the way, this is my baby. 1992 Dodge Stealth R/T

I think I just used whatever program that is bundled with Windows. The car was actually small in the original picture, I just trimmed the excess around the edges and shrunk it down enough to not break the sig rule size here on DodgeForum.
Good looking car, although I am not a fan of the rear wing.
