91 Stealth ES Help, Just picked up been sitting 6 months
Ok well first off hi to all Stealth Owners. I have been looking for a Stealth for some time and found one that after seeing it sit for 6 months I decided to find out what was up with it.
I was told it needs a clutch which it appears to but I will get to it, but that it was basically sitting due to that for about 6 months.
I am very new to the Stealth or Mitsu (which ever you pref) V6. I mainly work on 2nd gen Probe and Mazda KL motors of which I know a great deal. My brother sold his GT and decided to pick up the Stealth as I am in the middle of to many projects with the KL Blocks as it is (Eaton M45 S/C and Intake Mani kits as well as T-56 RWD Conversions).
He got it for 650, not bad it runs, has 215/60 R16 tires... but it runs lol. But it def has a Clutch issue.
1st it will not really go into gear without grinding but the clutch does seem to have some control over the car's engaging. I have sent him out to pick up a new clutch.
SO far I have removed the rear valve cover, done a motor flush, oil change and spark plug change.
The car seems to respond well but I have a few things i would like to get straight on this vehicles setup over mine.
1) Where is the Slave Hydrolic Clutch Fill point? I found the master but I have not seen the slave and am still looking.
2) Where is the bleeder valve for the clutch? I want to see if I can adjust the clutch and see if that may be all it is, either way the small amount of work I have put in is not going to bother me to much for the price of the car lol.
3) ECU Diag Box. I am used to the box under the hood and jumping 10 and grd. The car shows no CEL light but I also want to know how to reset the ECU as the car's idle is @ 1100rpms and that just seems way to high.
4) Also the car has an intermittant tick. Not like lifter tick I am used to that, this seems different almost like a pulley has bad bearings?
5) The oil Pressure gauge shows nothing.... but it appears to be circulating oil fine... is this common? Or is it common for the oil pump to fail?
6) I noticed that the SRS light is on, I can deal with that but it keeps giving a coolant level light just above it. I have checked everything it does need power steering fluid but I have never seen that set off a coolant light... what should I be looking at? The raditor is full.
What are somethings I should be weary of and look at before my brother just starts driving it and mostlikely not paying a lot of atten to what should be done?
What are some basic good things to know about the car and working on it. It seems straight forward, nothing to hard compared to my GT-6 lol, the intake is much easier to remove although the annoyance of how the tune up has to be done is well.. well known lol.
What about some good options to start looking at. With my car many things have had to be pulled from other mazda's like the RX-7, Millena etc to get increases and things I wanted or make them myself (Better braking systems, forged motor parts, also the motor from japan provides high compression pistons, different head intake ports and different cams (as well as ECU Chip)) what can I look to on this motor's side for these upgrades? I will be checking your section here but a basic guide as to some things that can be done will help me when he askes for more power lol.
What are the common failures. My car's Disty is notrious for going out and we have a replacement using a GM HEI Ignition Module and if so Desired External Unversal coil. Are there any things like this with the car that I should know about?
Other then that, thanks guys! Looking forward to learing about this car and having some more fun ^-^

hey, good job on buying a stealth!!! I have a 91 r/t and the SRS stays on in my car too (its just the airbag) as well as the coolant light. The coolent level in my car is fine also, and the engine does not overheat despite the light being on.
great purchase! I also have a '91 Stealth ES, bleeding teh clutch is a bit of a pain, though >.<
To get to the slave Cylinder and bleeder screw, you're going to need to pull teh battery, battery tray, and Air Intake(The thing that has teh air filter in it). Underneath teh exhaust manifold and other stuff, you'll see teh hydraulic line running into a port on teh Transaxle, near that, against a mount, there will be a bleeder screw. it takes a 10 mm Open end wrench on it, a line wrench wont get it, as the mount keep you from getting a grip on it. I hope that was less confusing than it actually seems >.<
I have teh same problem with the Coolant light showing, my Radiator is proper level, but, also, my Power steering fluid is low. Might be connected, but that doesn't make much sense to me either. Fill it and tell me? [sm=confused06.gif]
