Default HELP ME! (e supercharger)

I need a lot of help. I bought an E supercharger on ebay, the type that pretty much look like a turbo, and tried to install it. I have a '93 SOHC so I took out the curve in the intake tubing and put the supercharger there, reattached the mass air and intake along with the intake manifold side. I made sure there were NO air leakes. Everything cool, I started it up. The engine chugged and the exaust was like choke on a lawn mower for the first time after the winter for the first mow of the year. pretty dirty and black. took it for a test drive around the block, died three times, always in neutral coasting or at a stop sign. From there I took it back home. the engine idled at about 200 RPM, extremely low. when reved the smoke seemed to clear up but I couldnt stand it, I put it ba ck ther way it originaly was, w/o the supercharger. since that didnt work I was going to try letting the engine have the air the way it is and put the supercharger where the resinater used to be and getting its own little filter. would that work? or what about getting a y pipe and running the supercharger off of one side of that? where does it need to go for it to work and get the best performance?

Did the car run OK when you took the E-ram thing out? If it did, just leave it out, those things do not work. They do not pump as much CFM of air than the stock motor sucks in and they do cause a restriction in the intake. I don't think it would make any difference if you used a y-pipe or something to split the intake because you would do that after the MAS, it might throw off you AF ratio. If you insist on using this e-ram, next time you install it, unhook your neg. battery cable for about 15 minutes, this will reset you ECU so it can make adjustments to any mods in the intake and exhuast.

Check http://www.rippmods.com/ they sell a real supercharger kit for you SOHC that has been dynoed at 75 to 100hp gains.

Or check out http://www.boosthead.com/home.php for a real electric supercharger or other superchargers.

Neither of these are as cheap as ebay, but they really work, unlike the ebay ones.

Sorry for the bad news.

Good luck with it. I hope one of the plastic hairdryer fins does not break off and end up in your intake.

They've been discussed at length on 3si.org.

Lots of opinions there, but there is some facts thrown in if you can dig deep enough.

thanks for all of the input guys. I finaly got it to work. I had to totaly modify the intake system but now it works pretty desent, especially at high er speeds where the car usualy drags unless you have that turbo. it also made my car louder when I floor it making it sound like a bigger engine. AWESOME

mine only seemed better when compared to the factory intakebox. im much happier with my CAI. i did lowermy 0-60 time over the stock box, although i noticed no difference in sound. bascially it is about as useful to me a an SRI. mine also looks like a real turbo.the construction seems solid..but its already out of the car. it looked like hell, and my CAI looks purty...

for mine I totaly modified the intake moving the mass air and I split it into a fork. therefore there are now 2 high flow K&N air filters that are in use full time and I have my turbo on a realy nice carbon fiber switch( that little bit of extra class) anyway I think it works pretty good and Its stayin' in.

Eric Bowden on 3SI installed on of these deveices several years ago. He put the car on the dyno before and after.

I think it registered a 1 hp differance.

I think you'd get a better peformance response from doing the air filter relocation he did. He moved his filter from the stock location to the nook to the passenger side of the radiator(place the Turbo cars have on of the intercoolers)
