Aut Trans Stuck in high gear??
I'm looking at buying a 92 Mits 3000gt sl with 160.000 mi. Engine work has been done,BUT,Tranny will only engage in reverse or 3rd gear in drive.Trans will not find 1st or 2nd manually shifted or through drive position. Please does this sound familiar to anyone? Does this require a complete rebuild? The seller called and stated a Mits mechanic suggested there's a bad sencer ($100) part, maybe 2-300 to replace? Sounds & smells fishy to me! Here's the kicker,he's dropped his asking price $1,250. The car is otherwise in exceptional condition inside and out!! How much are trans. replacements to have done??
That would be your transmission computer, brand new around $1,000, used for around $450. Happened to me, for more information contact the guys at www.ecmtogo.com.
ah so like a check engine light on the tranny. well get it fixed.

TheStealth, I posted my topic, and then I read this.. That's exactly what I have. Changing fluid didn't do anything, providing it drove perfectly the last time I took it out, and then it just stopped shifting, I am leaning towards what you're saying. - A "limp" mode. Is there any way of resetting / de-activating the limp mode on the Stealth tranny? Please let me know, I am ripping my hair out here, thinging I fubared my Stealth. Thanks!
When I get home I'll try:
1. Since the fluid's been changed, I'll unplug the battery, see maybe it'll reset the computer. (long shot but you never know)
2. Found out that there's a "Speed Sensor" (?) on the tranny that might have gone bad.
3. Also heard that there's an ECU situation that might cause this too, but certainly hope not..
