What engine? SOHC, DOHC, DOHC-TT?

Have you done basic maintenance, plugs, wires, filters, etc.?

Sounds like either the plugs or wires are starting to go bad, or the fuel filter is dirty. Either of those items will cause hard starting. Do you have any pictures of your 96?

In addition, it could be a weak battery or corroding battery terminals.
