I've never looked at a FWD tranny, but hopefully it is similar to the AWD one. The drain plug is on the passenger side, and the fill plug is on the front, about 1/2 way up the tranny. Check and/or replace the fluid. Scroll about halfway down the page for a picture of the filler plug.

As for the engine noise you hear...does it do it idle, get louder as the RPM's rise?

it does it with speed, like inbetween certain speeds it can be heard like 5-10.....not with rpm...and it defanitly a tranny noise...not an engine noise...

thanks for the advice on the drain plug..

throw-out bearing going bad? I had the same problem in my truck. It make a sort grinding noise occasionally when rpm was just right and I was trying to shift. ONLY when I pressed the clutch. On my Stealth, I simple replaced the whole shooten match.

TheStealth is right on the locations of the drain and everything, easy to do just can get a little messy.

...other than being low on fluid, your shift fork could be bent or wearing out.

Normally, a throw-out bearing will clatter when the tranny is in neutral, or when the clutch is depressed.

check your clutch and adjust it. i have a feeling that all these things go bad (syncros and bearings and such) if your clutch is out of adjustment. mine was and all my syncros are starting to go bad.
