On stock, equal spec'd cars, the manual is normally quicker in a drag race. Auto tranny's have more parasitic loss than a manual; the torque converter is heavier than a clutch assembly, and the tranny pump sucks away some crank hp as well.

Ok thx for the help!
Also if the stock car had 240HP and the modded car had 240Hp from a stock of 220, and wieghed 100 pounds more, would it still be faster the manual?

stick is better to a curtain point. once you get to a curtain amout of horsepower the a auto is better because you cant shift as fast. for example a grand national, there all autos, if you were to take that engine and put in the same car thats stick it would be slower

It really depends on the driver and the shift points to whitch car would win.

Dont forget that power / torque curves and gearing (transmission and axle) have a huge impact on how the car actually performs.
The biggest problem with stock automatic transmissions is the soft, sluggish shifts and usually having only three gears (some newer cars are coming with 5 speed auto's), limiting the range of gearing that can be used. I know the older transmissions (C-4, FMX, TH350, TH400) had shift kits available to improve the shifts. I have not looked to see if anything like that is available for the stealths.

A 5 or 6-speed transmission can better utillize the the engine's peak power curve than only 3 gears. If you can tighten up the shifts in the auto tranny you can offset the gearing advantage a little by less lag time between gears.
