2000 Dodge Stratus CV Joints
I have a 2000 Stratus with about 80,000 with a 2.4.
Last year the car was hit in the pass side of the car. Took it in had everything fixed, they had to replace the front tower bearings ect. Last month I had a bearing go out and thought it was the pass. side and took it back to have them fix and after they replaced it they found out it was the driver side, They took the one from the right side (that they out on last year ) and put it on the driver side. The car worked great for a week, and then the daughter took the car out fora short errand and when she got home she told me the car made a clunking noise when she hit the break and when she took off it made a sound and it felt like she had a flat tire. I took the car to work the next day and it worked fine on the way there. (figures) Then when I made a short run it did the same thing. The first thought was a break hanging up but how can you screw up a disk break? Then as I thought about it Istarted think about the 99 stratus I just did bearing on myself and remember what the cv joint sounded like (that I ruined removing the bearing) it felt the same and sounded the same (considering I did go very fast and a short distance) The Difference being the 99 made the noise from the word go and never stopped, where the 2000 does it once in awhile. I took the driver side axle out but I have no idea what to look for or feel for? Can anyone tell me if I am thinking is right or wrong or how to test the axles?
Thanks
Don
