twisted rack boot, should I worrry?
Recently I replaced my rack and pinion from the dealer, then I got some brake noise. When I got my brake checked, the technician warned me that my rack and pinion wasn't properly installed. The rack boot(the rubber protecting the joint at two ends of the rack) was twisted, squeezed. So it might get worn. Should I let the dealer check it ? Another question is do I have some warranty from the dealer for the new rack and pinion?
If its just the rubber boot that is twisted, then you should be able to untwist it yourself. Use some pliers and loosen the clamp on the outter ends of the boot. Turn the rubber boot so its stright, then reinstall the clamp. Save yourself some $$$
