Cigarette lighter Problems (2004 Stratus)
This is my wifes car. We use her lighter for power adapters. You have to play with it for a min to get the power to kick on. We have got a XM radio that plugs the lighter and when she hits a bump it cuts off. I was wondering where would I start. Is there a way to remove that part of the dash so I could check for a loose wire? Is there a guide on how to remove the dash in that area?
The other issue I have is in my Civic when I turn the car off the lighter goes off. Great for my XM but on her car the power continues to flow. We have to unplug anything plugged in the wire in fear of draining the battery. Is there a way to have it so the engine cuts off the Cigerette lighter power?
Thanks --Jason

On your Stratus, I would suggest cleaning the area out first. It could be just dirty and you are getting a bad connection. Also check to make sure the power adapter isn't bad or isn't getting a good connection. Over time those metal pieces seem to get bent back and start loosing connection. For your other problem, on most cars your cig lighter power is a constant power source, it doens't matter if the car is on or not. The only way to change that is to re-wire it.
