Default '01 Stratus questions.

Well my mom got rid of her 2000 Stratus for the newer styled '01.
She likes the sportyness of her new 2 door. but I have some questions. mainly the acceleration fact is it normal for the 3.0L to rev up to 4500 or so before the car actually starts to pull and move. My mom like her power, she always was the sport car lady, before I started eating up the money she had a laser turbo, and prior to that Omni O24's and a 240Z aswell as a 280. She wants to get a little more out of the car although she is satisfied with the power it has now, there is always a hunger for more. The thing she keeps asking me about is the acceleration. the '00 had the 2.4L and it accelerated like a bat outta hell. the 3.0L response is good but it just makes alot of noise before deciding to pull and go. Any ideas? is this normal? car has 85K on it. What can I do on the cheap to free up some extra ponies? All suggestions and Ideas are welcome.

Default RE: '01 Stratus questions.

yeah its normal, i have an 01 R/T Stratus 3.0L. its realy a dog up until 4500 like you said, its just the gearing and the cams, more power in the upper rpm's to make the pass on the highway i guess. Dont know what dodge and mitsubishi were thinking when they teamed up for this car. I have 75 K on mine and it still pulls strong. The 4cyl engines are that way to get the power they have right off the batt so they can keep up with the traffic and such, get it on the highway against the 3.0L and there is no contest. you can always change the plugs and run better wires, i have NGK Uridium plugs, like $5 a piece with a good bosch wire, cold air intake (i paid $40 off ebay) is always an easy way to get like 10hp or so. Mine is a little more peppy but still nothing real impressive. they make headers and supercharger kits for these engines but they are expensive as all hell. hope this helps..
