Value of 02 R/T
Just kind of wondering if you think a black02 R/T with 44,000 mi is worth $9,995? It is one owner/clean carfax history. What troubles might I encounter with this vehicle? Did the 02 have the paint peel problem that the 01 had? Any input is appreciated.
Yeah, according to KBB, it is worth the asking price. I'm just wondering about possible problem areas that might cost alot down the road. I have a black01 SE coupe with 100,000 miles on it that I've had for almost a year. I had to have the tranny rebuilt about 3 months ago at $1700. Itis also developingaserious case of paint peel and has a great deal of dash cracks on it. I like the machine but it has been a costly little beast so far. Any info out there???
If you can let them give you the keys for the day in order to take it to a mechanic that you trust, you'll be able to get them down. I bought my '01 RT about 4 months back, 105K, 5 speedmanual transaxle. We started out out at $7K. I walked away and came back the next day and he ended up offering it to me at $5.9K. Getting better but walked away. The 3rd day I came back again and offered him $5K cash. He said, "Okay, but no 30 day warranty." To which I said, "Okay but my mechanic goes over it first."
They let me have the keys and drive it home and was to meet them back at the car lot at noon the next day. I dropped it the next morning at the shop that services all of my fleet vehicles. When I picked it up there of course was a list. Most everything on the list I could do myself but I took the printed list with the price to fix everything if the mecahnic did all the work. It totalled $1.5K. I dropped that list on the trunk in front of the sales rep along with $4.2K cash and said. "You have to sell this car but I don't have to by it. Here is what's wrong with it and I'll give you $4,200." They almost didn't even blink and said, "Sold." (dangit! I knew I should have said $4K!)
My point is you probably have more room than you realize when haggling on a used car. Don't think that your going to insult their intelligence by making an offer that seems rediculously under the KBB of the car. You have no idea how much or HOW LITTLE they have invested in it. Good luck.

Check my photo gallery and you will see my 01 Sebring LXiit has 42,500 I am the second owner and its very clean. I have it covered by a transferable, extended warranty till Mar. '09 or 100K, $0 deductible and covers all that the factory warranty did and more. I would be happy as hell to get $9,000 out of her. Not that I am looking to sell, but man it makes me think.
