PCM Bad or Just have a ghost under the hood
Two nights ago my wife comes home from shopping and walks by my 2005 stratus immediately runs into the house yelling that my car is haunted. i go outside and sure enough there is a sound under the hood sounding like a blower motor of some kind. But the radiater cooling fan was not turning upon further investigation. I called my brother-in-law in Chicago whom works for their local dodge dealership as a mechanic and describe the noise and he says it is the PCM located in back of the fuel injectors close to the firewall. Indeded that was exactly where the noise was coming from. He walked me through pulling every fuse and relay switch [some of them 2-3 times] and none of them stopped the noise. So after 3 hours of this conversation we both went to bed. When i awoke to go to work the next morning, My battery was deader then a 3 day old squirrel in the middle of I-5. I tried to jump it unsuccessfully for an 1 hour and left it on slow battery charge and went to work in another vehicle. When i returned from work it was almost charged but would drain down in volts whenever the darn noise would come on. My question is how can I test for sure to see if it is the PCM [they are expensive] or can I clear the computer in the vehicle by disconnecting the negative battery terminal or what???? Looking for the cheapest and easiest way out. I have never liked this car and would not care if we had an earthquake and the earth would swallow it up. But I need transportation during the day to get to work so any advise, suggestions or ideas on destroying the car.... Thank you to all of you that reply to this and Happy Thanksgiving
