hey everyone! i have a 98 stratus 2.5L today the oil light came on. it only comes on when its at idle. oil is good and full. no codes turned up on the diag. does this mean its my oil pump? any suggestions would be appreciated.

I hope you're right. It COULD be the pickup screen or the pump itself, or just excessive engine wear. All 1989 Spirits came with oil pressure gauges; I deplore their replacement with idiot lights.

If my low oil pressure moron light were flickering or illuminating, I would tee in an accurate oil pressure gauge to make sure the problem really is the sending unit. (My other car is a Passat 1.8T, so oil sludge and oil pressure are sensitive issues for me.)

 

yeah, i had same problem today, and got that part. Beware- wierd socket size

 

I think that it is the oil sending unit. I had the same problem with my car, with the light flickering at idle and I took it in. They said that I had good oil pressure but I needed a new sending unit. Didn't bother me any cause its under warranty.

 

my friend has a 99 Stratus and he had the same problem...it was his sending unit
