Unfortunately I haven't found a problem on this site similar to mine?
I have a 2005 4-Door StratusSXT with 70,000 miles 4-cyl.
Engine light popped on, my reader says its code P0491-Secondary Air Injection System (Bank 1)
Question is what is the Secondary Air Injection System (Bank 1) and is it something a DIY guy can handle or do I need a mechanic?
Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated, Thanks:-)

 

P0491 Secondary Air Injection System, Bank 1 - Insufficient Flow
P0492 Secondary Air Injection System, Bank 2 - Insufficient Flow

Possible cause of fault
- Electrical fault in power supply or line between relay and secondary air injection pump
- Secondary air injection pump relay mechanically faulty
- Mechanical fault in electrical secondary air valve
- Pneumatic secondary air valve faulty/sluggish
- Electrical fault in secondary air injection pump
- Mechanical fault in secondary air injection pump or secondary air injection pump blocked
- Vacuum system leaking
- Air hose to secondary air injection pump slipped off or constricted

But I need a little more help? I have the Haynes Repair Manual and it makes no mention of what the Secondary Air Injection SystemIS or WHERE its located:-) ??

P.S.- Is this problem something that requires immediate attention or is it something that I can live with for a bit??

 

I have the same problem. Haynes makes no mention of the meaning of the code, the location of the air pump (if one exists). I am beginning to wonder if the code has some other meaning for this vehicle.

I have A 2005 dodge stratus and its coding a bank 1 p171
What code is this

 

p0171 system to lean bank 1 the oxygen sensor closest to engine detected to much oxygen in bank 1(bank 1 is side with #1 cylinder in it). could be anything from a vacuum leak, bad or stuck pcv valve or hose leaking ,bad oxygen sensor, dirty or bad mass air flow sensor, exhaust leak between engine and sensor ,bad injector, low fuel pressure

 

Did you ever get this fixed? Was it the pump?

 

hello all, i have been having issues with code p0418 and p2431 and misfire in cylinder 3 fuel injector open/circuit issue and issues with secondary air injection pump as well as battery light. i have replaced battery and done oil change air filter and oil filter. today 05/06/2025 i will be replacing all 4 fuel injectors and all 4 coil packs and all 4 spark plugs as well as the secondary air injection pump and relay and check valve. im legit doing everything new cuz im tired of the run around. i even got new pigtail connectors in case some break or are loose. thats legit everything you can replace to fix these issues. so to recap , battery,all 4 spark plugs,coil packs,and all 4 fuel injectors,secondary air injection pump and relay and check valve as well as the pigtail connectors for all will be brand new. if this fixes my issue i will be posting on here to let yall know as well as posting a video about this all and showing you guys where its all at and how to replace them on my youtube. the reason i am doing this is not for fun or the views, i am contributing to the years of me youtubing issues i had with my car and finding videos to help. but with this car there is like 4 videos total in 2025 like how tf actual fudge is there no more videos. my youtube account is AsalentsTech my logo is a green A with black background so u can find the video - title of video will be 2012 dodge avenger sxt 2.4l results.but anyway im rambling. update yall later today with results.
