Default Alarm System & Keyless Remote Help

My son bought a 2000 Dodge Stratus ES two weeks ago from a used car lot, and it came with no books or information, justa key. Yesterday we went shopping and discovered the hard way that it has an alarm system. It took us several minutes to turn it off and we don't know how it was set or even how exactly we turned it off. In looking around on the internet, it looks like that if it has the alarm system, it probably has keyless remote, so I have these questions.. (A)How do you set the alarm--keeping in mind that he does not have a remote, just a key, (B)How does he disconnect or stop the alarm, (C)How does he find out if he does have keyless remote, & (D)If he does have that function, how does he get a replacement remote?

Thanks so much for any help!!
Tammy

Default RE: Alarm System & Keyless Remote Help

Do you think it's a stock or aftermarket alarm ???
Stock honks the car horn , an aftermarket uses a "siren" I'm betting it's the stock alarm
If it's stock, It activates with the keyless , to get a remote check Ebay and see if they list one for your car and if they come with programming instructions, If not then you might have to hit the dealer and shell out around $100 for one ...
Most turn off by putting the key in the DRIVERS door and turn it
As for how it turned on , might have been a stray signal from another Dodge in the lot
If you insert the key and turn it there should be a green "security" light in the cluster

Aftermarket , Climb under the dash and look for a box around 1" x4"X6" with non factory wiring running to different harnesses, get a name and model number from the box then find a dealer that can get you a remote and program it ...
