I tightened down on the nut at the top of the strut and that seems to have quieted it down a bit. Is there something that needs to be replaced or should I continue to tighten it down?

It's not a terrible job ... I'd do BOTH since they should have near even wear ....
Remove the struts , use a spring compressor remove the top plate, install the bushing, while you are at it I'd do the rubber Isolators under the top plate retighten then reinstall ...Last set I replaced was $36 for the pair bushings and isolator plates

Had the same problem checked today on my 02 R/T, was told replacing the front sway bar links would fix the problem.

pixelpadre,

Did you ever find a fix for this problem?

I have the same clunking noise with my 2002 R/T.

Thanks,

Talking

We had a clunking noise on our stratus and it was the ball joint and tie rod end on one side. The guy that fixed it said it was hanging by a thread! Whew!
