your added to the list man.

BUMP we only need a few more people to get the ball rolling for the 2g's yet. 2.5g's still need about 10 people.

I also need email addresses from people who are interested so I can keep in contact if your not an avid reader of the forums. Thank you.

Were still figuring this one out. We need to have 25 interested buyers than we can get the projected cost for a GB of 25+. If anything new is to come I will definately update this thread.

i was reading the other forum and a good idea would be to contact some of the sellers of aftermarket headlights and see if they are interested in selling that on ebay! If enough vendors from ebay agree to sell them then there is a good chance a company will want to pick up the tab. Oh yea and the reason y im not posting it on the other forum is cause i still need to confirm it but i never got the email.

before i took my leave at some other sites, i seem to recall someone on the site making projector headlights, but i think that they were like 400 bucks or something...

if you dont mind my asking, what did yours cost? what im more interested in..is there a ballpark price?

The ballpark is still being figured. Mine cost me about 2k, that's for brand new headlights $400, ZKW clear lenses $250, and the labor and materials to build. I'll quote what HIJACKER said from Club3g.

HIJACKER:
The first estimate I received was astromical (yet expected). I'm still pursuing various options.

In case anyone is curious, Anzo will not produce these under their product line nor allow me to have exclusive ownership to marketability. The mold ITSELF costs approx. $100k.

HIJACKER:

Doesn't surprise me one bit on cost. Hey, if anyone thinks they can do this for less than I can, by all means - please do. But I will tell you from YEARS of experience, CAD is the easiest part about the project.

Just do simple math, EVEN if the mold was 1/10 that cost, that's 10k. 10k/25 people is $400. That doesn't include manufacturing costs, material, etc.

Anyways, I'm pursuing alternate options so just hang tight. I've actually been working on quotes for almost a week now
HIJACKER:
The major manufacturers are priced WAY outside the budget of what everyone had in mind, and I've contacted a few smaller manufacturers in efforts to have them do a portion of the mold and rollover the fixtures to SCC for completion with no luck.

Odds aren't looking good but I will keep engaging the idea to see if I have any luck on putting together a reasonable business plan for this project. I don't recommend anyone hold their breath in hopes of me being able to do this, so I do recommend someone else make an attempt to find a way to make this happen and if they do - that person can take the lead role.[/align]
HIJACKER:

From a member standpoint, not really.

Let's base quick (example) figures off the 100k expense to create and produce on a mass production basis.

50 sets = $2,000/each
100 sets = $1,000/each
500 sets = $200/each

Now, in most cases - a company would invest the capital into doing a design, owning it, and selling off in bulk packages to various distributors. I WOULD be willing to do that - however, there is no proven market for that vehicle so the risk is VERY high and odds are, there won't be many (or any) distributors interested in buying the additional 475 sets to be produced (since 25 would be going out in this groupbuy) keeping the costs reasonable. That would assume $5,000 in lights are immediately sold and $95,000 is remaining as overhead/risk. Is that a good idea, definitely not - especially with current market conditions, fewer aftermarket parts are being sold and sales are dropping across the board as vehicle owners are beginning to pinch pennies on more critical items.

Option 2 is having sets made on a case by case scenario through the vendor that Nate used before, granted - that ran him somewhere in the range of $800-$1200. The only advantage to that is - the option is always there and what you will get can be completely unique to you, disadvantage, is cost obviously.

Now, that above scenario is laid out assuming ONLY the mold costs, no additional costs in production and also no shipping costs and profit margins, tax, etc. That's why it's only an example, but its to show you how the larger picture works.
