Vibration in motor and in steering wheel
Hello out there,I`m the new guy on the block and I hope my relation with you all will be a good one.I`m thinking of buying a 1996 stratus 4 cyl(2.0)6spd with 61k.I drove the car and it is truely a one owner car.I am concerned on the vibration in the steering wheel and the motor when the car is at idle. When accelerating it runs and drives smooth. My mind tells me automaticly that it might be motor mounts. Is ther anything else that I should check before assuming the mounts? Thanks for any help on this matter. Lou
That`s a good question.I did not notice ifthe RPM`s are affected.I wanted to try to find out as much as I can before I return to see the car again(hoping it`s still for sale)and maybe pinpoint the problem before I make an offer. Thanks for your reply any more info would help. Lou
I'd guess the car might have sat for awhile ... I'd wonder if there is dampness /water in the ignition system ... It's a big jump to motor mounts ... If you go back and look observe the rpm's if you see them fluctuate I'd bet it's misfiring ...
You can pop the hood and watch for motor movement when shifting and reving (small movement normal )several inches not normal

Im having this same exact problem in my 2006 dodge stratus sxt 2.4L ...with only 42,000 miles. Has anyone found out the fix for this? normal for a stratus? My rpm's do not fluctuate one bit while the vibration is going on. Its when im idle like at a stop light or parking etc... My idle rpm is 750 roughly. i was told when i bought the car that it was normal for the 2.4 and they checked over the motor mounts..supposably. help would be appreciated its very annoying! I have popped the hood and from what i can tell it looks almost like its coming from the throttle body..? but i could be wrong
