strange clunk when taking off

Default strange clunk when taking off

1997 Stratus 2.0
154,000 mi.
5-speed

I have noticed recently that when I am stopped then take off (as like at a stop sign), I hear and feel a clunking sound toward the front end driver's side that almost seems like something is shifting when the car goes forward. For example, at a stop light, I take off slowly and after a few feet I feel it even if the radio is on. When I'm on the road, it is fine - no problems. I'm trying to rule out things little by little like brake pads not releasing but I don't think it's that. Could it be ball joints? Are those a pain to replace? Thanks!

Had the same thing on the bonneville i used to have. would also "clunk" when turning left. turned out to be the ball joints were worn out. I don't know how to check those myself, but it's worth looking into.

Have you checked all your motor mounts?

I have actually thought about that. I think it is something steering/suspension related though because it sometimes happens also when turning and going over a bump. I can actually feel the clunk through the steering wheel.

I have the same problem and I jus ignored it and its has gotten worse now it feels like the car is coming off the frame or something like that... Im really hard on my car though
