02 Stratus Coupe 3.0 V6 not stalling out not starting
Hi there,
I have an 02 Stratus Coupe V6 3.0 and the car wouldn't start one day so I thought it was the battery (Auto Zone) and replaced it since it was under warranty. When I put the new battery in right away the car idled very low and stalled out. I adjusted the terminals and and it helped some but after a while the car would idle low and stall out, that was in June. Took it to a mechanic and he couldn't find a problem because the car started up with no problem and idled correctly. Now FF to August and when I would start my car up I would have to hold the key in the start position a little longer as it sounded like it was going to stall out. This problem was intermittent during this week. Low and behold yesterday Thursday 8/14 after work I tried to start and she wouldn't turn over just a clicking noise and weak turn but not turn over. Called AAA they came over and thought I just needed a jump but the battery was only a couple of months old and my lights worked fine when not running (full power). I thought it was the starter and when he lifted the car up on the tow about 3ft he had me try and start the car. I did and she turned over with a little hesitation but my "check engine" light came on. Now when I went to start it up this morning to take it to the mechanic it started up. After a few minutes of driving when I took my foot of the gas the RPM went really low and she stalled out on me. This happened several times as I was driving and especially at a stop light. I shifted the car into neutral and gave it gas while I was waiting. I also drove it in 3rd gear while on my way to keep the RPM up. Now I had the mechanic look at it and he thinks it is an Idle valve that needs to be replaced. Anyone have a similar problem? I'm looking at $350 for the part from the dealer and my friend is the mechanic. He didn't hook it up to the computer yet but I was planning on doing that today at Autozone but since it is driving the way it is I cannot take that option.

Had a problem with the stalling after I had removed the battery cables to clean them. Mechanic next door had me idle the engine at 2000rpm for 3 min ..(had to do this twice) in order to reset the computer. Another problem ... car would start just fine, but the rpm gauge would dip down after a bit of driving and after shuting off the engine would hardly turn over next time around ..(lights and everything worked fine). Turns out the starter was bad and once replaced no more problems.
