Stratus intermittent p0340
Hello,
Im new here and have been searching for some answers, and this site seems to be the most informative I have found.
- The Car: 02' Stratus ES 2.7 ltr. 87,000 miles
- The problem:Car threw the infamous p0340 (camshaft sensor issue) Im not one to just replace parts without examining things first so I checked connections, wiring, shorts and grounds etc... Could'nt find any problems that I could see. I reset the code to see if it was just random. Car was fine for a week or 2, problem returns some skipping present as well. I figured based on searches, It is probably just a bad sensor( which I see is a problem for quite a few of us Dodge owners). Replaced and reset code. Problem returns about 2 weeks later after trying to start on a cold morning. Car started after cranking a bit (usually starts right up) and sets the code. Replaced the sensor again (under 1 year part warr. from parts store) problem returns again, with the same symptoms.
The problem can't be the sensor, this is the 3rd sensor including the factory original. The car is clean , well maintained and in tune. I have searched these forums and others with no ideas as to what this could be. I have done all the basic checks everyone suggests. The S.E.S. light goes out after a while but returns when prob. comes back. The car will run like a top except for the occational "skip" and hard start. I have'nt been able to get any info other than the prob. occured from the last scan .Any insight as to what this could be would be a great help. The problem will happen at random when car is started or riding down the road. It has happened on mild morning as well as a cold one. Car can be cold or hot. Whats the deal with this camshaft sensor problem so many of us are having???
Sorry to be so long winded but some of the problems others are having dont seem to be exactly like the ones im having. Im hoping someone here will take the challenge and shed some insight on this. Is it possible another sensor problem is causing the computer to mis-read the real problem?? Im pretty good with cars , but this ones got me scratching my head.
Thanks again for any help.
