Default Conflicting ideas on spark plugs

Please help. I have a 2003 Stratus 4 door with the 2.4 DOHC 4 cylinder. I went to buy plugs for it and nobody seems to stock the 443 Champion regular copper plugs. I went to 4 autoparts places and they couldn’t even order them. They said it had been superseded by the Autolite platinum AP5263, which apparently became the factory standard plug mid year. I bought the Autolites. He also said to gap the plug to .040 but the sticker under the hood says .050. What he said is borne out by sparkplugs.com. I’ve heard these engines don’t like platinum plugs so I wanted the regular copper ones. I’m not worried about them lasting forever because they’re easy to change. But after less than a year and 4000 miles on my new plugs and wires I’m once again getting a ragged idle.
