Default HELP PLEASE! tranny problems

we were driving along in my girlfriends 03 stratus and it started making a noise that sounded like it was coming from the spedo. when she slowed down to like 25 then got back on the gas it was like she was in neutral, as the rpms decreased it kicked back in gear and continued making the noise. It did this a few more times but luckily we were close to where we are staying and limped it back. We are on vacation in Indiana and need to get back to michigan soon. The car only has like 75,000 miles, no engine or tranny lights came on, could it be one of the input or output speed sensors? HELP! and thanks in advance

As you drive it down the road, can you tell it is switching all the gears? I believe if it only goes to second, its in limp mode. Generally, input/output speed sensor issues would trip a code.

yes it shifts just fine once it grabs. we took it to a garage today and on the way there it threw on the tranny light. when the mechanic took it for a drive everyhing worked fine, no noise no neutral until we got almost back to the shop then it started acting up. scanner said it lost its prime. the guy said it may need a new pump and quoted us 2000 dollars (which i know is ridiculous) so i picked up a filter and fluid on the way home (it acted perfect almost all the way home) and im hoping its something stupid like the filter. If it were the pump wouldnt it act up all the time? it seems to only do it when you drop down like below 1000 rpms then it starves the pump for some reason?
