Default 2006 stratus - is possible to switch motor

My mom had a 2006 stratus - well the car had a major oil leak we were finally able to find out a seal is bad. Local mechanic just did the same repair to same car and in less than 2 miles the motor seized. From what I understand we just need to replace motor is it possible to use motor from 95 stratus? We have a 95 stratus the transmission needs replaced and the 06 needs motor was hopine these parts would just swap if possible which would b easier?

It would be most helpful if you could post back with the specs (number of doors, engine size, trim level) of BOTH cars. If you are talking about both 4 door (95-00 was only 4 door), and both the 2.4l than it MIGHT be possible to do a swap, although I'm sure there will still be a lot of modification to the wiring harness as the computers are likely different. Also, if you have the 2.5v6 in your 95, and a coupe with a 3.0, there might be some compatibility there also.

Just do not expect it to be a direct drop in.
NOTE: 95 was an odbI hybrid (used odbII plug, odbI computer, some free reading parts stores cannot read your codes). Your wire harness WILL be different!

As a side note, both cars should have a 41te transmission, that might be easier to swap to get the 95 back on the road

Take a good look at BOTH engines, and see if they are the same, if the mount points and clearance match, and location of wire harness, etc...
