newbie 97 stratus 2.4 leaking oil

Default newbie 97 stratus 2.4 leaking oil

Hi just joined the forum was hoping to get some input from you fine people
I noticed oil was leaking from the top of my oil filter loosing about 3 litres
a week bought another filter thing this was the problem but it wasnt been using fram oil filters

any thoughts oil filter is tight pleas email fstilla@shaw.ca

I'm not quite sure what you are asking here. So the one filter was leaking, and a new one is OK? This can happen if the o-ring isn't removed before installing the new filter (which should come with it's own o-ring). So there is two common problems, the old o-ring still being there, or the new filter not having an o-ring.

bought another filter thing this was the problem but it wasnt been using fram oil filters
Are you saying that you've never had a problem with fram oil filters? Or are you stating that you've never used fram oil filters, and this one was leaking?

Default oil leaking from oil filter

Yes it is still leaking even after replacing with new oil filter
cleaned surface first with brrake cleaner then applied new filter

sorry for the grammar should have said I was thinking the oil filter was the problem but it wasnt

Default 97 stratus oil leak

After furter investigation the oil leak is coming from somewhere above leaking down the oil filter


ANY IDEAS GUYS?

At that age, the oil pan gasket may be at fault. It's a pretty messy repair, but pretty simple none-the-less. If you find its coming from even higher, you might have a failing valve cover gasket (i've had to replace mine already). Give it a good look at, and maybe even clean the engine bay with de-greaser from the car wash, and see where it's at the next day.
