OBD how to? Doing it now.
I tried the old 1-2-3 to activate obd but that didnt do anything. I also held down trip and turned on key and that ran a check of the dashboard components but no computer check.
How do I run it myself, I know that you can do it with out investing in a tool. I dont want to go to autozone either. I went there yesterday and all they told me was that #1 and #3 are misfiring. I want to see the codes myself.
I am taking off that cast alum part on top of my 2.5l v6 to gain access to the coil because it sounds like it is the coil.

The procedure is supposed to be the same, however it will flash the check engine light instead of putting the codes in the odometer. Odometer keydance didn't start until the '01 model years. I've never had it work, since my CEL is burned out. Most parts stores offer free code reading, and it only takes a minute, and if the code is something obvious, you're already at the store to get what you need!
Yes, it does check the cluster. I found that out a couple years ago, trying to do the "key dance". But that's rather useless unless you aren't sure if the issue is the cluster or the computer, don't ya think?
There is a procedure that displays the engine trouble codes, as the check engine light flashing. I've never tried it, because I would never see it. I just have my friend hook up his computer every couple weeks to see if there is something I should be aware of. Auto parts stores will usually do this for free anyways.
