I own a 2004 Stratus SXT, its a 4 cyl. - I just got a price quote to get a high-performance muffler put on the car, it will be $150. I am going to go through with this.

I was thinking about getting a performance air filter on the car because I have heard that it boosts the cars sound and helps with performance. I am not sure If I should do this or how much it would cost. Keep in mind I am 17 and I have very little knowledge of cars right now.

I have an 03 se sedan 2.4l DOHC, me and a buddy installed the magnaflow exhaust and an hp tuning short ram intake in my car. if you have the tools and a lincoln electric welder you can put it on ur self as i did. but to answer ur question yes it sounds better and yes it does increase your performance. you'll love the noise but shop around for a different muffler, different sizes, styles and brands make slightly different noises, go to advance auto or autozone and play with the muffler sound bit machine!

 

I just had a Thrush brand muffler put on it, it sounds pretty awesome. An air intake is next after I get my brakes fixed but I am not sure if it will fit in the engine area haha.
