Clutch, transmission or no biggy?
Bought my son a 2001 dodge stratus, manual v6 3.0 cylinder vehicle recently. This last month I have had the pleasure of teaching him to drive a stick shift... about to lose my mind or the transmission.. whichever gives out first.
Long story short, I was driving it the other day and noticed something weird after awhile, not sure if its anything but here goes:
Lets say I'm driving 45 mph at 2000 rpm's in 4th gear. If I depress the gas pedal to speed up quickly, the engine will go up to about 3000rpms quickly, then about .5 a second later drop to 2500rpms and start speeding up. If the engine is already revved up, it wont do this. Same thing happens in 5th gear... its not that noticeable but I've never driven a manual that has this "issue" Or "feature".. like I said it only revs up breifly.. it doesn't feel like the clutch is slipping, it wont do it at higher rpm's, I don't hear any grinding etc..
Soemthing I should be worried about?
Thanks for any advice, help, or reassurance.

I've never heard of a stick doing that without the clutch slipping. My Sephia did the same thing, but it was all gears (light throttle in 1-3), but the clutch was obviously slipping by that time. Does the speedometer go up smoothly and it's just the tach that rises than falls a little? Any unusual sounds? Does it do this in ONLY 4 and 5?
A slipping clutch would be most noticeable in 1 & 2 when you're calling for the most torque.

Thats the thingm no extra noise. It only does it when there is low rps and not much torque. If the engine is already revved around 2500rpm's or more and I give it gas the speed goes up as well as the rpms no problem. Its when the engine is slightly lugging or at lower rpms and I give it gas it will do it.
I am unsure about gears 1 thru 3, will try it today and see what happens. I really doubt it happens in 1 and 2 but will check it out. I've only noticed it in the higher gears where its easier to lug the engine and then give it gas.
The speedometer goes up smoothly as soon as the rpms drop down (bout .5 a second or so), I would say its the exact opposite of what your describing in that when I need the most torque and at higher rpms it works just great, give it gas; rpms and speed go up immediately. only when in higher gears and I should have shifted down, but instead give it gas it will act like I described above. Just got me scratching my head.
