Default 2000 Dodge Stratus 2.4L DOHC SE Automatic 4Cyl Question

Hello,

I have owned my Stratus for about a month. Before that I owned an exploder. I haven't had a smaller vehicle for some time, and I've never had an automatic or a 4 cylinder. I was wondering if someone could answer this question I have.

The vehicle shifts great, engine sounds like it needs a lifter (just a slight tap sounds like a lifter) but other then that the engine runs strong. However, I am a bit worried. When I start from a stopped position and accelerate fast which I always try not to do anyone, the car get's up to a little over 4000 RPMS before it'll change gears, is this normal?

Also, I was wondering since I haven't had the chance to look. What kind of brake is on the rear? I am pretty sure I need to replace my brakes but I want to make sure I get the right ones. It is clear the front ones are regular brake pads (disc?) but what are the rear and what's the easiest way to get that cover behind the wheel off? Looks like it might block dust!

Any help would be great!

Perfectly normal for an automatic to shift at higher RPM's when accelerating hard. Really get on it and it'll shift in the 5-6k range.

That "cover" is actually the drum, as the rear on most 95-00 strats (especially the 4cyl models) have Disc front / Drum rear. It can be a pain to take the drum off to change the shoes, I have found that tapping it with a rubber mallet while trying to shake it loose will eventually let it slide off.
